Some members of the
Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma will opt out of the $3.4 billion settlement to the
Indian trust fund
lawsuit because they have filed a damages lawsuit in the
U.S. Court of Federal
Claims.
The Goodeagle lawsuit alleges the federal government mismanaged the Individual Indian Money (IIM) accounts of Quapaws and their allotments.
"We're bringing this lawsuit in the name of not only the Goodeagles but other tribal members," plaintiff Grace Goodeagle told KODE-TV.
Quapaws who want to join the case must do so by April 17. They must also opt out of the portion of the Cobell settlement that deals with damages by April 20.
